Global Warming: A Threat to National Security by Lynn Fang, Jul 7, 2008 (9:23pm)

(S 1018/HR 1961) This bill requires a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) that will assess threats to national security arising from climate change. This bill, along with its Senate companion bill, was introduced in response to a report released from a group of retired military officials as well as other experts. This report concluded that global warming is a national security threat to countries around the world, and should be taken seriously in national defense planning. It is important to take climate change seriously; an added threat to national security would be compelling incentive for the government to work towards lower greenhouse gas emissions, and to engage and inform other countries as well.
