Putting Environmentalism on the Farm Bill Agenda by Maya Perelman, Sep 5, 2008 (4:24am)

The lack of public support or opposition to the bill is surprising, considering that it proposes changes to the huge agriculture industry. But as the primary programs in the bill were ultimately incorporated into the 2007 Farm Bill, it may be that H.R. 2656 was never really considered on its own. While the final contents of the farm bill are more complex and ambiguous on the question of the environment than this single bill, the provisions contained in this American Farm Improvement Act basically provide incentives to farmers who run their facilities using renewable energy sources. (Although it specifically expands the biofuels industry, rather than focusing on truly CLEAN energy sources, like solar/wind/geothermal).
