Chief Justice wants a raise for federal judges by Lechuan Zhou, Mar 5, 2008 (2:40pm)

This bill would raise federal judges’ salaries to $233,500 from their current salary of $165,200. Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts urged Congress to raise the salary of federal judges in his year-end report, arguing that the current salary is less than the entry-level salary for first-year lawyers. Supporters of the bill argue that if Congress does not raise salary, the federal judiciary will be severely under-staffed because of its limited ability to compete with the private law sector.
