More Taxes to decrease world hunger by Tiffany Hsieh, Mar 14, 2008 (4:17am)

This bill and its companion bill HR 1302 try to help the world meet one of the UN’s millenium development goals to cut extreme poverty in half. It commits the US to spend 0.7% of its GNP on foreign aid. A vast array of organizations support the passage of this bill to help reduce global poverty. On the other hand, many conservative groups are appalled at the thought of a possible tax increase. They also disapprove of the UN in general and do not support the use of tax dollars to promote UN goals.
