Ryan Haight Act Encourages More Responsible Prescription Drug Use by Albina Popov, Oct 2, 2008 (8:05pm)

HR 6353 is named after Ryan Haight, an 18-year-old who died from an overdose of prescription medication obtained from an online pharmacy. This bill ensures that Internet sales of prescription drugs must require the buyer to provide proof of an in-person medical evaluation and a valid prescription. The bill now makes it more difficult to obtain prescription drugs illegally by eliminating a dangerous loophole. While illegal drug sales will not be eliminated entirely (only those conducted through online pharmacies), this bill could potentially decrease large purchases of drugs for illegitimate purposes.
