Big Government? by Alina Fortson, Mar 30, 2009 (9:59pm)

It seems odd that Republicans, typically champions of small government and minimal regulation, support McCain’s (AZ) proposal of establishing a US Boxing Commission. While it is true that the health and safety of professional boxers is worthy of concern, government intervention does not seem appropriate. Sports organizations are not typically funded by the government, and during a recession it is irresponsible to spend money in starting new programs of this kind.
