Reinvigorating the War on Cancer by Karen Chung, May 21, 2009 (6:01pm)

The Cancer ALERT Act of 2009 (111th) is an ambitious bill that seeks to revitalize the “war on cancer” by accelerating the search for cures and better treatments and preventive measures. Specifically, it would update the role of the National Cancer Institute in coordinating the national cancer program, promote new technologies, create a state grant program for colorectal cancer screening, increase enrollment in clinical research by removing barriers to participation in clinical trials, and set up initiatives to improve care for survivors. S. 717 is an ambitious bill that would benefit future cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones.
