Banning cross-border horse slaughter by Emily Derenthal, Apr 7, 2009 (9:58pm)

S. 727/H.R.503 the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act of 2009 bans the transportation of American across national borders for slaughter. Currently horse slaughter in the United States is illegal, but American horses are taken across borders to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. Some state-wide regulations exist on this issue, but S. 727/H.R. 503 would make it a federal crime.
