MapLight's API (application programming interface) is a way for other software programs and websites to use MapLight's data. Our data on which interest groups and organizations support and oppose bills is available through our Bill Positions API. We make our data available for free as part of our open-data philosophy.

GovTrack.us is one example of a website that uses data from our API. On the MapLight site you can see, for example, organizations that support and oppose the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009:
