Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — Nancy Pelosi represents the 8th district of California. Pelosi was first elected to Congress on June 2, 1987 in a special election called to fill the vacancy resulting from the death of Sala Burton. During the 110th Congress, she was elected the first female Speaker of the House. Pelosi was born in Baltimore, Md. on March 26, 1940, where her father, Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr., served as mayor and as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. She graduated from Trinity College in 1962 with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in History. She married Paul F.
