Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) — Harry Reid was born in Searchlight, Nevada on Dec. 2, 1939. Reid earned an associate degree in science from Southern Utah State College in 1959 and a B.S. from Utah State University in 1961. While earning a law degree from George Washington School of Law in 1964, Reid served as a U.S. Capitol police officer. Reid was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 2, 1982 where he served two terms before being elected to the Senate on Nov. 4, 1986. Reid was elected Senate majority leader during the 110th, 111th and 112th Congresses. Reid was chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission (1977-81), member and chairman of the South Nevada Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees (1967-69), and held various positions in Nevada state government prior to becoming a member of Congress.
