Project Manager
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our team. This role is responsible for overseeing several of MapLight’s campaign finance, lobbying, and ethics disclosure software projects to ensure successful delivery within scope and budget. This position is full-time and remote within the U.S.

In this role you will:

Develop comprehensive project plans for complex long-term software projects

Oversee all phases of project execution, including progress tracking, risk management, and mitigation to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope

Contribute to and coordinate delivery of project plans
-
Prepare regular project status reports and dashboards for internal and external reporting, highlighting key milestones, risks, and performance metrics
-
Maintain engagement and clear communication with external government stakeholders
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including staff and contractors
-
Monitor project budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial constraints
-
Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance project management efficiency

Qualifications required:
-
Minimum of 2 years of experience in project management, with a strong track record of successfully delivering complex projects on time and within budget
-
Minimum of 5 years of additional experience working in software development projects as a project manager, product manager, engineer, operations manager, or other software-project-related roles. Experience working with large government projects is strongly preferred.

Highly organized with a high level of attention to detail and thorough documentation

Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Willingness to develop detailed expertise in campaign finance, lobbying, ethics, and other areas of MapLight’s work

This position requires occasional travel, currently estimated at two trips per year of one week each for staff get-togethers, plus an estimated two trips per year of two days each to client locations.

Salary & Benefits
This position is full-time and remote within the U.S. The salary for this position is $100,000 to $130,000, depending on experience. This position includes a generous benefits package that includes paid vacation, health, dental, and vision insurance, and retirement matching. A four-day schedule (Monday through Thursday) may be possible, depending on client needs.

Product Manager
MapLight, an innovative, award-winning nonprofit that builds software to improve democracy, is seeking a Product Manager to join our team. This position is full-time and remote within the U.S.

In this role you will:

Work with internal and external stakeholders to understand their needs and translate those needs into software requirements and specifications.

Create user stories, wireframes, and other documents to meet client needs.

Actively maintain documentation of business processes and needs over time.

Work collaboratively with the engineering team to manage backlog and schedule engineering tasks.

Lead meetings about product features and project updates.
-
Become a subject matter expert in business domains our products cover, such as campaign finance and lobbying disclosure.

Required qualifications:

Minimum five years of product management experience.

Strong knowledge of modern software development practices and experience with software development in an agile environment.

Experience working with a variety of stakeholders including clients and external teams.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Excellent listening skills and the ability to translate feedback into deliverables.

Formal project management experience or certification is a plus.

Senior .NET Software Engineer (contract position)
We are seeking an experienced Senior .NET software engineer to join our team working on a project for a government client. This contract position reports to our Staff Engineering Manager and is available for remote work from anywhere in the United States.
Over the last few years, MapLight has provided groundbreaking transparency for money and politics through our successful Disclosure System launches to city and state governments across the country. We have recently been awarded a significant campaign finance project, and we are seeking experienced engineers to support maturing our product offering in this next chapter of growth and development.
If you join us, your main focus will be this new project. You’ll be a key member of the project team, collaborating with our internal engineering and product team(s), as well as our partner agency and other stakeholders, where your experience and expertise will directly impact the success of this project.
What you’ll do

Design, build and test software to meet business requirements

Accelerate feature delivery by shipping functional software frequently with an Agile team

Make meaningful contributions in code reviews and architecture discussions

Work on complex, cross-functional, full-stack software projects.

Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams.

You’ll need

6 years of experience building web applications and services with .NET / ASP.NET

Proficiency with C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Core MVC.

Proficiency with SQL and RDBMS, preferably Microsoft SQL Server

High degree of self-motivation and self-direction.

Excellent communication skills, including communicating cross-culturally and across time zones.

Deep understanding of the importance of incremental improvement in systems and people.

Rate
This position is contract and remote, but applicants MUST reside within the U.S. The hourly rate for this position is $75 to $110, depending on experience. The schedule may support a flexible four-day schedule with six billable hours per day.
