INSIDE MAPLIGHT

A New, Interactive Resource From MAPLight.org!

January 17, 2008

January 17, 2008 - Sometimes you need to know the context of legislation to understand what a bill is really about. Now MAPLight.org provides this context with the launch of our new, interactive Links tab.

The Links tab provides links to newspaper articles, research reports, blog postings, and other information about each bill.

We launched our new Links tab today with links to more than 100 articles and reports, to help you understand Congress's activities better.

Why did automobile manufacturers support HR 6, the Renewable Fuels, Consumer Protection, and Energy Efficiency Act of 2007, after initially opposing it? The articles on the Links tab, pictured above, give context and answers

This energy measure, which Congress approved on December 18, includes a 40 percent increase in fuel economy standards for American cars, which would cause auto makers' costs to skyrocket. Links explain the compromises in Congress that led to the auto makers' last minute about-face.

Even better, you can add you own link to relevant information. Just click "Add a Link."

HR 6 with links

The links tab is useful in understanding controversial bills. For example, why is there so much debate about HR 2419, the Farm Bill Extension Act of 2007?

Links explain why some believe our food system should be overhauled, while others insist that farm subsidies are working as they are. Lobbyists from all different sectors made their voices heard about this $286 billion bill.

The Links tab includes links to articles about all different aspects of a bill, from political maneuverings in Congress to the possible impact on our lives. We welcome blogs, news articles, and opinion pieces from all perspectives, as long as they contain thoughtful information and analyses of the bill in question.

We are excited to launch this innovative feature that lets you "talk back" to our site. I look forward to seeing your contributions! Together we will make MAPLight.org the best resource for understanding what a bill is really about.
