July 20, 2010 - The unemployment benefits extension bill (HR 4213) heads back to the House after obtaining enough votes to break a Republican blockade of the measure. The 60-40 vote was largely split along party lines.
Senators who voted for the bill received an average of $268,593 from interest groups that support the bill. Leading the pack among the supporting interest groups were "Women's issues" and "schools and colleges."
Senators who voted against the bill received an average of $128,919 from interest groups that oppose the legislation. Opposing interest groups gave nearly as much to Senators who voted yes as they did to those voting no, who received an average of $118,401 from these groups.
